Value Based Project Selection
and Prioritization
Every organization strives to provide
clarity of purpose and a sense of direction. A common characteristic of effective and
profitable organizations is the proper selection and prioritization
of projects. A common characteristic of ineffective organizations is a selection or prioritization
process that is random or non-existent.
These projects are typically all "top priority." The clarity of purpose organizations
strive for is sometimes clouded by every project and initiative being "top priority." This
results in substantially more projects in work than can be reasonably completed in the
allocated amount of time or resources, causing delayed delivery of projects that may be
of great importance to the organization at the expense of projects that are of less importance.
A root cause for organizations not being able to select and prioritize projects effectively
is the inability to establish a sound project selection and prioritization method that
achieves buy in from all stakeholders. Stakeholders will have conflicting objectives that
may all be valid. Thus buy in from stakeholders is as important as the prioritization method
itself and the selection method must be able to take stakeholder biases into account. SEBA® excels at being able to establish valid project selection and prioritization processes
that achieve
stakeholder buy in.
