Educated technology professionals frequently find themselves thrust into the role of project manager. Often the excellent technology professional does not obtain excellence as a project manager. Even when excellence as a project manager is obtained, the learning curve to excellence is usually painful for the organization and the individual. The skills that are beneficial to the technology professional as a project manager are often skills that would improve the performance of the entire technology organization. The performance gap between the technology professional and the project manager is discussed and methods to minimize the gap in a rapid and cost effective manner are presented.
